Bayern Munich are said to be in advanced talks to take Burnley manager Vincent Kompany to the Allianz Arena after the Bundesliga club weren’t able to reach an agreement to keep Thomas Tuchel. And his appointment in Germany could spell bad news for Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester City.

Kompany took over at Burnley in 2022 following a two-year spell in charge of Anderlecht and led his side to the Championship title during his first campaign at Turf Moor.

But the 38-year-old couldn’t prevent them dropping back down into the second tier, with an underwhelming season in the Premier League culminating in 24 defeats.

According to the BBC, Bayern believe Kompany wants to join the club and are aiming to agree a compensation package with Burnley. He would take his backroom staff to Germany with him, including former Citizens team-mate Craig Bellamy though Burnley want to keep Kompany's No.2.

If Kompany does make the move to the Bundesliga, he could attempt to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Arsenal over the last year but is now said to be on Bayern’s wish list.

His playing style would be suited to Kompany’s football and given their decline this season, he would be a likelier immediate starter at the Allianz Arena than at Arsenal where he would have to share game time with the likes of Declan Rice, Jorginho and Thomas Partey. As a result, the Gunners might miss out on landing the Spaniard.

A current Bayern player who may also benefit from Kompany’s arrival is Joshua Kimmich. The versatile Germany internatnional lost his way under Tuchel and has been linked with a move to Pep Guardiola’s City as well as Barcelona.

But his career in Munich could be revived by Kompany, who given Kimmich's quality may view the 29-year-old as an essential part of the squad as Bayern attempt to wrestle the Bundesliga title back off Bayer Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso's side finished 17 points clear of the chasing pack to clinch the league title without losing a single game and Bayern ended down in third.

Kompany’s career is heading on an upwards trajectory, despite his struggles in the Premier League this season. And he may find it impossible to turn down Bayern’s approaches, despite telling reporters he is already planning for the next campaign in Lancashire.

“Today the Premier League is over but tomorrow we start day one of doing everything we can to get back to the Premier League,” the former defender said after Burnley’s relegation was confirmed. “It's way too early to answer if I'd have done things differently. I'm constantly thinking about what we could do better right now and before.”

And if he does head to Bavaria, how he moulds his squad could have an impact on multiple Premier League clubs including Arsenal and City.
