star has been crowned the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. The England international has been in sensational form for ’s side this season, scoring 16 goals and assisting seven in 31 league appearances.

With and both ruled out for extended periods of the campaign, Foden has picked up the mantle in terrific style at the Etihad Stadium this season and asserted himself as one of the most gifted players in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has thrived on both wings and also through the middle in his favoured No. 10 role, and his versatility will prove an incredibly useful asset for this summer ahead of the Euros.

Foden’s performances have already been rewarded after receiving the FWA’s Footballer of the Year award, earning 42 per cent of the votes and earning himself plenty of plaudits along the way.

Speaking about Foden’s victory, FWA chair John Cross, the Daily Mirror’s chief football writer, said: “Foden got my vote and those of a huge number of other members. He has been outstanding this season and I think he has taken his game to another level.

"I love the way he glides across the pitch and is equally effective out wide and in the middle. He has been a joy to watch this season in City’s performances - and let’s hope he can maintain that form for England in the Euros this summer.”

Foden wasn’t the only City star to receive an award from the FWA, with Khadija Shaw winning the women’s award.

The striker has scored 21 goals in 19 Women’s Super League appearances this season to help her side to the top of the table, though she will not be available for the final few matches of the season after breaking her foot.
