Tottenham sent clear message as club president tells striker 'you can dream'

Genoa president Alberto Zangrillo has hinted that Albert Gudmundsson could be on the move this summer in what will be music to the ears of Tottenham. The forward has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs at the end of the season as they look to strengthen their squad.

Tottenham are keen to bolster their attack at the end of the season after opting not to acquire the services of a marquee No. 9 to replace Harry Kane following his move to Bayern Munich.

The funds from that sale are still available, and Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy look set to put their transfer budget to use with reinforcements in attacking areas. Brentford striker Ivan Toney and Athletic Bilbao starlet Nico Williams have been cited as serious considerations at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Genoa forward Gudmundsson also remains of serious interest at Spurs, and the north London outfit appear to have been invited to table an offer for the services of the 26-year-old. Genoa president Zangrillo revealed that his side cannot stand in the way of Gundmundsson’s ambitions in the future, following his 14 goals in 32 Serie A appearances.

He said: “He is a young, serious guy, who wants to cultivate ambitions that we are not able to guarantee at the moment. It is useless to deny it. He has a national and international market, it is correct for both parties to make evaluations, what matters is the final result.

“I don’t deal with these things, let the player dream and leave it open to us to operate correctly on the market. We have learnt to love our boys; we can make good transactions and think that in a few years, Albert can say ‘if it wasn’t for Genoa I would not be here’.”
