are reportedly set to modify their head coach role with Arne Slot preparing to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. The Reds have agreed a £9.4million compensation package with Feyenoord and the appointment of Slot is now considered a formality.

Huge changes are expected to take place at the Premier League side over the summer. Slot will replace Klopp in the dugout. The Dutchman will also bring his own backroom staff.

Richard Hughes will become sporting director after working his notice at Bournemouth. Michael Edwards has also returned to Liverpool as Fenway Sports Group’s CEO of football.

Liverpool have now reportedly decided how the football operation will work. According to The Times, Slot’s job title will be specified as ‘head coach’ rather than ‘manager’.

While Klopp took on vast responsibility beyond coaching later in his reign, Slot’s job will be solely focused on the training pitch. He will report to Hughes, while the duo will both report to Edwards.

Slot had been keen for Feyenoord to come to an agreement with Liverpool over a move. The Reds’ interest in the 44-year-old did not become apparent until after the Eredivisie side won their Dutch Cup final against Nijmegan.

Feyenoord knocked back a £7.7m offer earlier this week before accepting a £9.4m proposal on Friday. Slot will see out the remainder of the Eredivisie season before replacing Klopp over the summer, with a busy few months set to take place.

His side won the Eredivisie for the first time in 20 years last season but they are extremely unlikely to retain their crown this term. Feyenoord are nine points off PSV with three matches remaining.

Klopp has given his approval to the appointment of Slot, saying he was impressed by his heir’s public willingness for a deal to be agreed.

The German said: “I like a lot that if he’s the one, that he wants to take the job, is desperate, like ‘come on, let’s go for it’, excited. I like the way his team play football. I like all the things I hear about him as a guy. Good guy.

“Some people I know know him. I don’t know him yet but some people tell me he’s a really good guy. Good coach, good guy, looking forward to the club if he’s the solution. It’s not up to me to judge these things but it sounds good to me.”
