striker Beto was taken off on a stretcher and later taken to hospital after suffering a nasty head injury during the Toffees' Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon. The incident happened in added time at Goodison Park, after Beto and Morgan Gibbs-White clashed heads.

The game was stopped in the 93rd minute after Beto and his Forest counterpart collided with each other. Both players went down immediately, but it was the Everton man that appeared to come off worse.

Sharing an update via X, the official Everton account posted: "We can confirm that Beto was knocked unconscious and has been taken to hospital as a precaution. We're all with you, big man."

After a lengthy delay play resumed, but not before Beto was stretchered off the pitch. Forest midfielder Gibbs-White played on after the collision.

Head injuries and how they're dealt with have been a hot topic for some time now, with the Beto injury once again highlighting the issue. Former player Chris Sutton took to X to share his frustrations by saying: "Once again a serious head clash not dealt with adequately.

"Beto and Gibbs-White's clash of heads is sickening and while Beto has to come off and rightly so Gibbs-White stays on. It’s the same force/impact going through both players skulls! Most clubs don’t care about player welfare."

It was the only sour note of an otherwise splendid afternoon for Everton, who enjoyed a stellar 2-0 win in the Merseyside sunshine. Goals either side of half-time gave Sean Dyche's side a much-deserved victory, with Everton now five points clear of 18th-placed Luton Town.

Idrissa Gueye opened the scoring for the home side just before the half-hour mark, before Dwight McNeil made sure of the points midway through the second half. However, it was the visitors who were left the most frustrated, with the official Forest X account blasting the referee's decisions.

Lamenting the non-awarding of three potential penalty decisions, the Forest account posted: "Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept. We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options."

Everton welcome Liverpool to Goodison Park on Wednesday evening, while Forest host Premier League-chasing Manchester City next weekend.
