CBS Sports pundit Micah Richards was told off by host Kate Abdo after breaking the broadcaster’s golden rule during their coverage. The pair alongside Thierry Henry and were discussing the night’s upcoming matches before getting sidetracked and turning attention to their own contracts.

The former defender first put Abdo in the spotlight by informing viewers that she had signed a four-year extension with the broadcaster in June. “You’re all right, you’ve signed,” Carragher said, though the conversation swiftly became awkward after Carragher and Abdo debated over which of them repeatedly brought up their deals with CBS.

Richards then aimed a pointed look at Henry, forcing the and icon to reply with: “Why (are) you looking at me like this?” To which the former man explained: “I didn’t say anything. Are you signed and sealed, or is the ink not dry yet?”

Their laughter soon turned to silence when the presenter attempted to steer the conversation away from their contract negotiations, as Abdo cut in by saying: “You know they’ve specifically asked us to steer clear of the contract talk on air?”

“Oh really?” Richards responded, before noting the serious expression on Abdo’s face after breaking the golden rule not to discuss contracts on TV and added: “Moving on swiftly…”

Henry and Carragher continued to chuckle away as Abdo put the quadruple back on their primary focus, the evening’s Champions League games as the experts covered and wins over Barcelona and respectively.

They have formed a dynamic envious of many broadcasters, able to and concise analysis, with Stateside football fans overjoyed at the high standard of their coverage.

However, doubts have been raised over whether the four will stay together on CBS. Abdo penned a new deal at the start of the season but after Henry returned to management with France’s Under-21s and Under-23s, he admitted that with his contract up this year a discussion will be necessary before pledging his future to punditry.

“Obviously, having the opportunity to coach the Under-21 and the Under-23 for the big games, I made sure that I could do both,” he told The Athletic.

“So that tells you something because I would have stopped CBS if I didn’t see a value of it. I do understand that if something is missing, then a lot will be missing. I’m not talking about me. It can be Micah, it can be Kate, it can be Jamie. If we’re not together, I don’t think it will be the exact same show.”

“What’s going to happen after my two years with the Under-21? I don’t know what’s going to happen. All I know is right now I’m happy to be here and don’t want to miss anything.

“I don’t know where my mind is going to be in two years. Do I still want to coach? I don’t know. I cannot go further than that on that question in terms of what I’m going to do next because I don’t know what’s going to come next. But I’m happy with CBS and I made sure that I could do both.”
