Benfica technical director Pedro Marques is a step away from joining Liverpool.
The Athletic says Marques is to arrive to work with new sporting director Richard Hughes and football chief exec Michael Edwards.
Marques has a past at Sporting Lisbon and Manchester City.
Fenway Sports Group's plan in bringing Marques in is to take advantage of his expertise in finding talent around the world.
