Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has named Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes as a player he believes "matches" the club's style. His comments come as transfer rumours start to heat up ahead of the summer window.

Last summer, City signed four new players - Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic. When the transfer window opens again at the end of the season, Pep Guardiola will want to freshen things up and could look to the Premier League to do that.

And Guimaraes could be one to watch as Newcastle look to adhere to the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and Financial Fair Play (FFP). The Brazilian reportedly has a £100million release clause in his deal at St James' Park.

And City icon Aguero, who bagged 260 goals in 390 games for the club before moving to Barcelona in 2021, believes that the Newcastle midfielder fits Guardiola's style of play.

"I haven't been following the trade market," Aguero told Stake.com. "There's usually a lot of chatter in the months leading to the window and you never know how it plays out.

"Bruno's [Guimaraes] style as a midfielder matches City's, that much I can say, but I wouldn't be able to tell you more than that."

Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 for £40m, and signed a contract extension in October that will keep him at St James' Park until 2028. He has been integral to the success under Eddie Howe and won't be allowed to move on the cheap.
