Rooney scored a hat-trick and laid on two assists as United won 6-4 on the day.
The 14 year-old striker also laid on two assists.
Dad Wayne Rooney told The Athletic: Young players develop at different times and in different ways.
"He's trying, he's giving it a go and hopefully he can get to the level he wants."
