The Slovakian FA have explained the decision to allow Francesco Calzona to take the Napoli job.
Calzona will succeed Walter Mazzarri as Napoli coach, while also continuing to be Slovakia manager.
The FA announced on Monday:
""Last week the Slovak Football Federation and the coach Francesco Calzona agreed on a new contract until the end of 2025. In case of qualification for the 2026 World Cup, the contract would be automatically extended until the Slovak national football team's performance in the final stage of the tournament.
"Only on Sunday 18 February did the official request arrive from SSC Napoli that Francesco Calzona could carry out the role of head coach of the club at the same time as head coach of the Slovak national team. After intense talks with Calzona and consultations with SFZ president Ján Kováčik, national team vice-president Karol Belaník and members of the executive committee, SFZ has decided to give consent to Calzona to also lead SSC Napoli with the following conditions:
"1. Consent is limited in time to the period from 19.2. until SSC Napoli's last Serie A or Champions League match in the 2023/24 season
"2.The coach is required to comply with all contractual obligations arising from the valid contract with SFZ
"3. The coach will be available to the Slovakia national football team at all times, but not exclusively, during the association dates of national football teams determined by the international football calendar, including personal presence at the appointment press conference before the March matches of the Slovak national team
"SFZ has the right to withdraw their consent at any time if they fail to comply with any of these conditions. This procedure was agreed upon by all members of the SFZ Executive Committee. The Slovak Football Federation is aware that this is an atypical decision that could cause concern among the public.
"However, we also understand F. Calzona's exceptional relationship with the club where he worked for a long time and wants to help in the current difficult situation.
"Coach F. Calzona has repeatedly stated that the main priority of his activity remains the Slovak national football team and its preparation for the final stage of the EURO 2024 tournament."
