Sunderland have confirmed that manager Michael Beale has left his role with immediate effect.
The 43-year-old, who had a contract until 2025-2026, has been fired within two months of taking charge.
Sunderland are now looking for yet another manager, having sacked Tony Mowbray in December.
Beale was in hot water with Sunderland fans for ignoring player Trai Hume after the latter came off during their game against Birmingham.
Beale later said: “Trai Hume is a fantastic player for our club. He gives everything for his team-mates and the staff.
“I wasn't aware that I missed his handshake until being asked about it post game. I immediately went to see him to apologize.
“Trai passed a fitness test this morning to play the game and I cannot hold him in higher regard as a man or professional.
“He is an example of everything that is good about a young footballer and our team."
