Man Utd handed Mason Greenwood red flag despite sublime latest Getafe goal

Manchester United will be closely monitoring Mason Greenwood's progress during his season-long loan at Getafe ahead of making a final decision on his future this summer. But Getafe manager Jose Bordalas' recent comments suggesting the 22-year-old is still struggling with his consistency spell bad news.

Greenwood scored a sublime, albeit deflected, opener in the La Liga outfit's 2-0 win against Granada, soon to recruit United winger Facundo Pellistri on loan.

Borja Mayoral added the second later in the first half to leave Getafe in 10th, seven points behind sixth-place Real Sociedad, currently occupying the final European spot.

Greenwood has impressed many during his stint in Spain, registering six goals and four assists in 20 appearances, 17 of them starts.

And United will soon approach the time when a final decision has to be made by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, INEOS, new chief executive Omar Berrada and the club's incoming director of football.

The Red Devils have the option to keep Greenwood and ride the almost guaranteed backlash as he enters the final year of his current contract.

The most likely option, though, is for the club to cash in on their academy graduate for a pure profit to boost their Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Greenwood has reportedly drawn interest from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, among a host of European heavyweights, since his return to football last year.

However, Bordelas' comments after the former United No. 11's contribution to the victory over Granada suggest he is finding it difficult to produce consistent performances.

"He is a great player, but everyone has a job. We are very happy with the work from Greenwood, Borja, and Maxi, but without everyone's work, he cannot shine," Bordalas explained.

"Greenwood had a great first half, although not so much in the second half. But everyone has worked for the team. They were aware of the importance of the game, and finally, we achieved it."
