Barca Atletic coach Rafa Marquez may've talked his way out of succeeding Xavi.
Marquez has been regarded as one of the favourites for the senior post after Xavi announced he would be leaving at the end of the season.
However, the Mexican's clumsy reaction to Xavi's decision has left Barca directors unimpressed, says Sport.
Asked about Xavi's resignation, Marquez said: "I will continue preparing, obviously, I am very happy with the work I am doing with the boys. It is part of the process and will come in due course if they have to approach me."
He then continued: "Who doesn't, right (want the job)? But the most important thing is to keep preparing because it is my second season as a coach here.
"I''ll prepare myself in case that moment comes. You can't say no to such an opportunity..."
It's claimed Marquez's comments have left Barca directors "p***ed off".
