manager already provided a hint about his next job before on Friday morning. The German coach has revealed that he will walk away from Anfield at the end of the season, ending his successful nine-year reign.

As part of his emotional address to the Liverpool supporters, Klopp suggested that he needs a break from the ever-intensifying demands of club football.

He said: "It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously. I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again."

However, the 56-year-old has been heavily mooted as a future manager of the Germany national team throughout the latter stages of his Liverpool spell.

And last year, Klopp teased that it was undoubtedly something he would be interested in if he were available, which he will be from the summer onwards.

"The national coach job is and would be a great honour – that is completely out of the question," Klopp admitted last July.

"The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty. I can't just leave Liverpool now and say I'll take over Germany for a moment. That doesn't work, and the request isn't there at all."

He added: "If I'm supposed to do this at some point, then I have to be available, and I'm not that at the moment. I have a responsibility towards the club.

"Basically, it's an interesting job. But I don't even know today whether I'm doing something completely different after I stop at Liverpool. I would like to leave the options open."

Julian Naglesmann was appointed Hansi Flick's successor in September after being sacked as Bayern Munich manager, and his contract runs until July 2024 after Germany host the European Championships.

The demands of international management are significantly lower than at club level, and another disappointing tournament after a disastrous 2022 World Cup could move the German FA into action again.

However, Klopp will likely want a longer break than a couple of months, which could buy Nagelsmann more time if he underwhelms this summer.

The Germany role is, without question, on the Liverpool boss' agenda before retirement from coaching altogether, though.

But, for now, his full focus will remain on the four competitions Liverpool could still feasibly win on what has now become a farewell tour to the Reds and English football.
