Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in a shock transfer for Newcastle star Kieran Trippier to add to their growing number of English talent. Bayern have signed Harry Kane and Eric Dier over the last six months and have reportedly identified Trippier as a possible new right-back.

The Bundesliga side are keen to strengthen in the position after losing Noussair Mazraoui to the Africa Cup of Nations. Thomas Tuchel confessed earlier this month that a right-back who is ‘strong in duels’ would be an ideal signing, a trait that Trippier possesses.

According to Chronicle Live, Bayern are eyeing the experienced defender, 33, as a potential signing. Trippier reportedly remains close with former Tottenham team-mates Kane and Dier.

Tuchel said: "We are looking for a right-back who is strong in duels. We’ll see if something is possible.

"Nous Mazraoui is at the Africa Cup, but we have also gotten used to Konrad Laimer at right-back, even though it’s not his best position. If there’s an opportunity on the market, we’ll take it. Otherwise things will stay this way."

Newcastle have admitted that they may need to sell some of their star players either in January or the summer to remain compliant with profit and sustainability regulations. Premier League clubs are permitted to lose only £105m over a given three-season period, with Newcastle reporting losses of £155m over the last trio of campaigns.

Spending on the academy, charity foundation and the women’s team is exempt, meaning Newcastle fall just under the limit and remain in line with the regulations. But in order to ensure they remain compliant in future years, a key player might need to be sold over the coming months.

Trippier, who joined from Atletico Madrid two years ago, is among Newcastle’s best-paid players. Despite excelling in his first couple of campaigns at St. James’ Park, his form has dipped of late.

Newcastle also have enough quality at right-back to cope if Trippier does leave. Tino Livramento is highly rated, while Harrison Ashby has performed well on loan at Championship Swansea City this season.
