July 4

Independence Day weekend

Thursday will mark the 248th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence — essentially the birthday of the United States of America. There are, of course, a great many ways to mark this event, and many will do so by barbecuing something or lighting fireworks. In many cities and towns across Utah, people will gather for group events, including parades, activities in the park, and professional fireworks displays. The Tribune has compiled a list of events going on across Utah, not just on Thursday but for the holiday weekend. Look for it in The Mix section of today’s paper.

July 4

Jonas Brothers in Provo

Traditionally, one of the biggest Fourth of July events in Utah — in terms of number of people attending, as well as amount of fireworks expended — is Stadium of Fire, at LaVell Edwards Stadium on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo. Most years, there are patriotic displays, marching bands, dancers, skydivers, a military flyover, and a closing pyrotechnics display that is called the largest of its kind in the country. This year’s musical headliners are the sibling trio The Jonas Brothers. Show starts at 8 p.m.; tickets are almost gone, but few are still available at tickets.byu.edu.

July 5-6

Two Twilight shows in Ogden

The Ogden Twilight series continues after the July 4th holiday at the Ogden Amphitheater, … 25th St., Ogden, with two shows from electronic-dance producers. Friday night features Ben Böhmer (with Tinlicker as the opening act), while Saturday will bring Diplo to town (with Gioli & Assia in support). Both shows start at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at ogdentwilight.com.
