South Jordan police shot a person in the Skye Drive and Skye Park area June 15 after responding to a suspicious person call. The subject was taken to a hospital for treatment but died due to their injuries.
The officers involved are on administrative leave while the incident is investigated. Such investigations are carried out by the Officer Involved Critical Incident team.
The police received a call alleging that a subject was peering through car windows at an area park. When police arrived on the scene, they say\id the individual pulled out a knife and was noncompliant.
Officers said they made multiple attempts to deescalate the situation. They first spoke to the subject and used “less lethal” force to try to detain them. Police shot the person after they approached police with the knife.
While the investigation continues, the Skye Drive and Skye Park area is closed.
Police have not released the name, age or gender of the person killed. Information such as how many officers were present and how many shots were fired is also unknown.
According to a database maintained by The Salt Lake Tribune, this was the tenth police shooting in Utah so far this year.
