Letter: Take it from a member of Republican Voters Against Trump: Democracy is on the ballot

There is nothing more precious than the well-being of our democracy, and Donald Trump has proven over and over that he is not up to the task of defending it.

I, like millions of other Americans, voted for Trump in 2016, but I soon realized his primary goal was self-enrichment and that he had no intention of following through on his campaign promises.

Trump does not have any concrete policy ideas or plans to move our country forward. Everything he does is in pursuit of riling up his base, who will seemingly follow him anywhere. The level of devotion he has managed to inspire is reminiscent of some of the most dangerous dictators in history. Trump’s admiration for Putin and the statements he made encouraging him to attack our NATO allies are completely unacceptable.

Furthermore, there is no evidence that the 2020 election was stolen and his efforts to overturn it threatened the foundation of our democracy. He has been convicted of both fraud and defamation, proving that he cannot be trusted. We cannot elevate him to our nation’s highest office.

In 2024, democracy is on the ballot, and that’s why I’ll be voting for Joe Biden.
