Donald Trump has responded to the release of Robert Mueller's report into Russian election interference, saying: "This should never happen to another president again."

President Trump's legal team said on Thursday the results of the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller vindicate Trump and show Trump acted properly when he fired James Comey, the former director of the FBI.

Mr Trump said he was a "having a good day" following the release of the Mueller report, adding, "It's called no collusion, no obstruction."

"There never was, by the way, and there never will be," Trump told a gathering of wounded troops at the White House. "We do have to get to the bottom of these things, I will say, and this should never happen ... to another president again."

"The results of the investigation are a total victory for the President ... it is clear there was no criminal wrongdoing," his lawyers, Rudy Giuliani, Jay Sekulow, Jane Raskin and Martin Raskin said in a statement.
