Newly appointed Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan on Thursday said she was confident she could bring impetus to the bureau and lead her team to push forward various transport policies and plans. Chan replaces Lam Sai-hung who vacated his position in the first cabinet reshuffle of Chief Executive John Lee. Speaking to reporters, Chan said the government was working on different railway projects, including the Tung Chung Line Extension, Tuen Mun South Extension and the Northern Link. "Transport and railway development is pivotal to the economic development of Hong Kong. We have promulgated a transport and traffic blueprint which lists out a number of railway and road projects," Chan said. "In the coming years, I will be leading my bureau in taking forward, steadfastly, in order to make sure that these projects are implemented and constructed on time, within budget." She added that with the implementation of the three-runway system, the government would continue to work on raising Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub. Asked about bus fare hikes, Chan said authorities must consider what the public could afford, but pointed out the importance of bus operators having a stable financial situation, in order to ensure their quality of services. Chan had previously served as the commissioner for transport, before becoming the permanent secretary for transport and logistics in 2020.
