Organisers have said that Hong Kong's one-year countdown carnival for the National Games has been cancelled, in the wake of the Observatory issuing Strong Wind Signal No. 3 Saturday afternoon. The event was supposed to take place at Central Promenade from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Hong Kong will co-host the Games for the first time next year – from November 9 to 21 – along with Guangzhou and Macau. It is also the first time the countrywide competition will have multiple host cities. Eight competitive events will take place in the HKSAR, including fencing, track cycling, rugby sevens, golf, triathlon, beach volleyball, men's handball, and men's under-22 basketball. In addition, Hong Kong will also host multiple events for the National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the National Special Olympic Games in December next year.
