Standby Signal No 1 issued as Trami moves away

The Observatory issued the Standby Signal Number 1 at 10:20 pm on Saturday, as Trami continued to move westwards away from Hong Kong. It had issued the Strong Wind Signal Number 3 at 10:40 am, after Trami intensified into a typhoon, skirting to the south of Hong Kong at a distance of about 500 kilometres. The Observatory said winds will be strong offshore and on high ground overnight and afirst thing in the morning. The outer rainbands associated with Trami will still affect the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary. Seas will be rough with swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports. The Education Bureau had said earlier that kindergartens and schools for children with physical and intellectual disabilities were suspended for the day. The organiser of the Hong Kong Food Carnival said the event had been postponed because of Trami. The Tourism Commission said the light-and-sound show, "A Symphony of Lights", would be cancelled. The Harbour Lounge at the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival was also closed, but the doors of the festival remained open as usual.
