The Observatory has issued the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 10.40am on Saturday and said it will remain in force for most of the day. The forecaster said Trami intensified into a typhoon this morning, skirting to the south of Hong Kong at a distance of about 500 kilometres. The Education Bureau said kindergartens and schools for children with physical and intellectual disabilities would be suspended for the day. The Social Welfare Department said all child-care centres, facilities providing after-school care programmes, elderly services centres, rehabilitation units as well as day activity centres, will remain open during normal operating hours. The organiser of the Hong Kong Food Carnival said the event has been postponed due to the typhoon, noting that the carnival will be cancelled for the rest of the day if Signal No. 3 remains in force after 1pm. The Tourism Commission said the light-and-sound show, "A Symphony of Lights", will be cancelled. The Habour Lounge at the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival is also closed under the strong wind signal number 3, but the doors of the festival remain open as usual. The Observatory added that local winds are expected to strengthen with a few squally showers in Hong Kong, as the winds veer to the east later on. However, it expects the winds to ease off gradually on Sunday morning as Trami leaves.
