The Observatory on Saturday downgraded its red rainstorm signal to amber just before 4 pm, as the heavy rain over Hong Kong started to ease. The red signal had been in place since just before 9 am following a rainy night and, at about noon with the weather worsening, the Observatory had said it might issue the black, its highest rainstorm warning level. The forecaster says another intense band of thundery showers is edging towards the Pearl River Estuary, and might still affect Hong Kong. It again warned that certain low-lying, and poorly drained, areas might experience flooding and advised people to stay away from watercourses in case of flash floods.
