HK govt slams US State Department report

The government on Tuesday said it strongly opposed and disapproved of a report by the United States on the human rights situation in Hong Kong last year, calling it "unfounded and biased". A spokesman of the SAR government said it condemned repeated US attempts to politicise human rights in the so-called annual human rights report by the US State Department. "The HKSAR government strongly demands that the US immediately stop acting against the international law and basic norms of international relations and interfering in China's internal affairs and Hong Kong affairs," the spokesman said in a statement. He said the administration is against the wanton slander on Hong Kong where the One Country, Two Systems principle is successfully implemented. The spokesman added that the SAR's laws on national security clearly stipulate that human rights shall be respected and protected.
