Govt to help New Lucky House residents find shelter

Chief Executive John Lee on Wednesday said the government will do all it can to help people affected by a serious fire in Jordan, including arranging temporary accommodation for them. Lee told reporters he was extremely sad about the blaze that claimed five lives at the New Lucky House building, and he expressed condolences to the victims' families. The CE said the bodies of two of those killed were yet to be identified. Five people were critically injured and eight were in a serious condition, he said, after visiting some of those being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Lee said more than 130 people were staying at the Henry G Leong Yau Ma Tei Community Centre for the time being, and food and bedding had been provided. "The Housing Bureau and the Housing Department are closely liaising with the Home Affairs Department and the Social Welfare Department to do their best in offering assistance to affected residents, including arranging those in need to stay in temporary shelters or transitional housing flats," he said.
