Govt gives emergency funding to Zheng Sheng College

The government said on Thursday that it has given more than HK$1 million in emergency funding to a college that helps students quit drugs, so they can continue with their studies. In January, the authorities arrested four directors of the charity which runs the college, the Christian Zheng Sheng Association, on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud. The Christian Zheng Sheng College earlier told the press that relevant bank accounts had been frozen by the police as part of the investigation. In a statement responding to media enquiries, the narcotics division of the Security Bureau said the money given to the college comes from its Beat Drugs Fund. The association's founder, Lam Hay-sing, is being accused of failing to transfer money to the college for its daily needs. He and college head Alman Chan are on the police's wanted list. "We condemn these people on the wanted list for their nasty and selfish behaviour," a narcotics division spokesperson said. "We urge them to repent and return to Hong Kong as soon as possible to face legal consequences."
