Hong Kong equestrian athlete Jacqueline Siu said on Tuesday that winning gold in the individual dressage event at the 2018 Asian Games has given her the confidence to aim high again. The Hong Kong team, featuring nine riders, will be travelling to Hangzhou for the latest edition of the Asian Games at the end of the month. This will be the fifth time that Siu is participating in the Games, and she believes she and her horse have what it takes to do well again. "Obviously each Asian Games poses challenges, different situations, but I have a wealth of experience and winning the gold medal last time really raised the awareness of equestrian sports in Hong Kong. It's pressure, but that's what we like. We live on pressure," she said. "We basically get to know our horses inside out. We know them better than we know ourselves, so when we go to challenging and difficult competitions, we have that sort of knowledge of our horse and of ourselves that we can try to compete to the best of our abilities.” Meanwhile, veteran rider Patrick Lam – who’s also taking part in the Games – said he's excited to see younger athletes joining the Hong Kong team. "It's always good to see young riders coming up and stepping up and facing challenges like we have done in the past years. I think our youth squad is getting bigger and bigger, and they are currently training in Germany," he said.
