Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has been warned of becoming the next Dele Alli after a disappointing 18 months following his big-money move to Old Trafford. The Englishman was snubbed by Gareth Southgate in his squad for the World Cup, and has also fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.Related articles Newcastle owners make 'decision on ditching club' for Man Utd Man Utd may have Ramos transfer regret as Portugal hero nets hat-trick
Marcus Rashford and Antony look to be the Dutchman’s preferred wingers, as Sancho also has Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho as competition while the club have been heavily linked with a move for World Cup star Cody Gakpo.
Sancho has three goals in 14 appearances in the Premier League and Europa League this season, and former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes he will be worried about following Alli’s path which could end up in the Championship.
“He [Sancho] just probably needs a reality check of what’s important to him,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider. “He’s 22, so it’s ‘Do I want to end up in the Championship at 25 or 26? Or, do I want to be playing in the Premier League and for England when I’m 25 or 26?’
“You look at Dele Alli. He’s not ripping it up in Turkey and his next move could be in the Championship. That can happen in football if you’re not bang at it, even at a young age. That’s what Jadon Sancho has probably had to say to himself, sometimes nobody else can help you expect from yourself.
“Maybe that’s why he hasn’t gone with them and wanted to stay and do his own thing, I’ve got no problem with that. It must be difficult for him to watch England but it’s his own doing. If you don’t perform, you don’t get picked.

“When he had the chance at Man United, he wasn’t taking players on, he was playing in the comfort zone. If you’re in the comfort zone, nowadays with all the cameras, you’re going to get found out. That’s why Gareth Southgate had no option but to drop him.”
Sancho has not joined the rest of the squad that didn’t go to the World Cup on their training camp in Spain, though he has been spotted training in Holland as part of a specialised regiment in order to recover his Borussia Dortmund form in England.
As the club confirmed the travelling party for their two friendlies against Cadiz and Real Betis, a reason was given as an explanation for Sancho’s absence: “[Sancho is] continuing his individual training programme as part of a process to get back to his highest level.”Related articles Baileys reduced to £10 for a litre on Amazon Ronaldo's Portugal team-mates 'frustrated' with World Cup distraction Man Utd told of Jadon Sancho swap that could help land Jude Bellingham Newcastle owners make 'decision on ditching club' for Man Utd Man Utd may have Ramos transfer regret as Portugal hero nets hat-trick
