Police confiscate 18 firearms before dawn in Limpopo

Police confirmed that a total number of 18 firearms were confiscated during a high-density operations in the province of Limpopo.

An early-hours police operation has yielded positive results following arrests and confiscation of firearms in Limpopo. FIREARMS AMONG BIG BUST BY THE POLICE Provincial spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that a total number of 18 firearms were confiscated during the high-density operations “Kukula” that were conducted across the province by the multi-disciplinary forces from 08 January 2024 until the early hours of Monday, 15 January 2024. During the operation, 1 796 suspects were also nabbed for various offences, according to Colonel Ledwaba. “Four hundred and sixty nine (469) undocumented foreign nationals were arrested for the Contravention of Immigration Act, including forty suspects for possession of suspected stolen properties. “In addition, 238 individuals were nabbed for public drinking, 28 for illegal dealing in liquor, 24 for rape, 155 for assault GBH, 13 for robbery with weapons other than a firearm, 16 for sexual offences, and 105 for drug-related crimes among serious crimes,” Colonel explained. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has appreciated and praised the sterling work that is continuously displayed by the men and women in blue in combating crime across the province. “The suspects have started to appear before various Magistrate’s courts across the province,” Hadebe confirmed. OVER 700 APPREHENED IN THE PROVINCE Meanwhile, police in Gauteng continued to squeeze the space for criminals to ensure that people in the province feel safe. This past weekend, from Friday 12 January to Sunday 14 January 2024, over 700 people were arrested as police were hard at work tracing wanted suspects, conducting roadblocks, raiding liquor outlets and performing stop and searches, among other crime prevention activities. Some of the suspects were released after paying admission of guilt fine, while others are expected to appear before various Magistrate Courts in Gauteng from today. ALSO READ: Payment challenges?
