Six-month-long repair works on Cape Town bridge almost complete

The six-month maintenance work on the Lower Church Street Bridge over the N1 in Cape Town will likely be completed on 31 January.

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate says it is wrapping up maintenance work on the Lower Church Street Bridge over the N1 in Woodstock, which has been ongoing for the past six months. MAINTENANCE ON N1 WOODSTOCK BRIDGE ALMOST DONE Motorists are advised to expect delays on the N1 at Lower Church Street. The City of Cape Town said roadworks will continue until Wednesday, 31 January 2024, if all goes as planned. The repairs to the Lower Church Street bridge include the top of the bridge and the soffits of the deck over the N1 freeway. ALSO READ: REMINDER: 9-hour water outage in these parts of Cape Town The work includes the following: CITY OF CAPE TOWN MMC HAPPY CRITICAL WORK IS ALMOST COMPLETE Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility Rob Quintas said the repair and rehabilitation of the existing vehicular bridge structure at Lower Church Street is required to improve the safety and operational standards of the bridge. Quintas said this includes damage to the existing structure resulting from impact or traffic accidents at various locations. “By doing this work, we are further mitigating the degradation of the structure due to concrete spalling and theft.
