A Place in the Sun: Property hunter admits feature is 'not good'

A Place in the Sun's Jean Johansson disappointed a couple during their property hunt in Cyprus. In the episode aired on Tuesday night, Jean accompanied Maxine and John from County Durham on their quest to find a dream holiday home within their budget of £150,000.

The pair were looking for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom property close to the beach and local amenities, with some flexibility to stretch their budget up to £180,000 for the perfect place.

Jean's first suggestion was an apartment listed below their budget at £140,000. Initially, the property seemed promising, but John noted his reservations about living in a complex, though he agreed to keep an "open mind."

Upon entering the apartment, Maxine remarked, "It seems a little dark." Despite trying to stay positive about the property's spaciousness, she identified a significant issue: "It is a deal breaker for me."

All she could see from the balcony were air conditioning units and water tanks, leading her to admit, "It's not good, is it?" She later confirmed to her husband that this issue was a deal breaker for her, reports the Mirror.

Undeterred, Jean presented her second option - a townhouse priced at £120,000. This property was well-received by the couple, with Maxine appreciating its proximity to the beach and John impressed by what he considered a "bargain" price.

Maxine was visibly delighted with the first property, stating: "It is ticking a lot of boxes," as they explored the spacious house and garden. The second property was also well-received, with Maxine declaring it a "contender."

The third holiday home, another townhouse priced at £157,000, was praised for its ample space and deemed a "major improvement" on the second viewing. Despite its distance from the coast, Maxine assured Jean that this "didn't put them off."

However, the fourth property's location failed to impress the couple. Jean urged them to "Keep an open mind," but Maxine found another "deal breaker" during their tour.

She confessed: "I know we can do work on this, but I am not sure I really want to."

They even cut the viewing short, admitting to Jean that they "didn't view all of the rooms" as it wasn't what they were seeking.

"We didn't go in all of the rooms, but it is definitely not for us, I'm afraid, Maxine told Jean.

The final property, priced at the higher end of their budget at £172,000, received a "lukewarm" response from the couple, who felt overwhelmed by their options.

Maxine and John, after careful consideration, decided to place a bid on the third property. They initially offered £140,000, but their proposal was turned down.

The seller came back with a counteroffer of £155,000, a figure that Maxine found too steep. Undeterred, the couple made another counteroffer of £144,000, which was also rejected by the seller.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 6pm on Channel 4.
