Fans of Channel 5 were split this evening as the broadcasters hosting a New Year's Eve special of Jane McDonald offering a Singalong. The cruise-loving sensation took to the stage as she belted out some well-known classics and urged audiences to join in.

She performed a party playlist of floor fillers, showstoppers and toe-tapping tunes to help get fans up on their feet and dancing in the New Year. However, it seems the special was actually made up of old performances from her now-defunct Channel 5 show Jane And Friends cut up and spliced together.

But that didn't stop fans at home from enjoying it. Some took to social media to share their admiration for the 61-year-old star.

On Twitter/ X, one penned: "What better way to say goodbye to 2024 than a singalong with Jane McDonald?" While another quipped: "My life has peaked, watching Sing-along with Jane McDonald on Channel 5. Scenes."

"Who knew that all we needed this New Year’s Eve was a Jane McDonald sing-along!," one more added.

Meanwhile someone else referred to the much anticipated of BBC's Gavin & Stacey finale, which aired on Christmas Day, as they said: "Channel 5 are about to trump Gavlar and Stace on BBC One with singalonga Jane Mcdonald."

While most fans were made up to have a little boogie ahead of the clock striking 12, others were less pleased. One complained: "It was a great evening with some brilliant #TOTP banter and tunes.

"Now it's 10pm and the schedulers have decided to put on Jane McDonald's New Years Eve Singalong. How to ruin a night."

Another sarcastically said: "I love how they air Jane McDonald and Jools Holland on New Years Eve. Just so the first day of the new year is immediately an improvement."

Elsewhere, Jane recently opened up on her life after loss. The singer was devastated when she tragically lost her fiancé, Eddie Rothe, after he passed away from cancer back in 2021.

Speaking to Hello! Magazine earlier this month, as she launched her book Let the Light In, which was released in September of this year, the star shared how she tries to deal with the grief. She explained: "You have to rebuild and I was very grateful that I had another life besides Ed."

She added: "You just have to rebuild [your life] in the best way you can. For me, that's going out and seeing my fans again and saying to those who have gone through the same as me, I know what you're feeling."
