Loose Women: Call the Midwife star talks about Xmas cliffhanger
The mastermind behind the hit BBC drama Call The Midwife, has confessed she's unsure about the show's future. However, she reassured fans that she won't be "going to run out of stories" anytime soon.
Heidi Thomas, the 62-year-old creator, expressed her emotions during the press launch for the latest series, admitting: "We're 14 years into this and I still don't quite know how we keep going."
This revelation follows the airing of two Christmas specials featuring Helen George reprising her role as Trixie Aylward, adding festive cheer to Nonnatus House.
Addressing speculation about the show's end, Heidi countered: "People are always saying to me that Call the Midwife is something that is going to end very soon because the pill has arrived, so fewer babies will be born and that hasn't happened because for every woman who takes the pill, there is one who forgets or there is one that doesn't know it exists," according to Hello! magazine, reports Wales Online.

She further elaborated on the enduring appeal of the show, stating: "Time and time again, I've been genuinely shocked by the extent to which society and women will create obstacles for themselves even though society is giving them every opportunity to do otherwise. It's in the fragility of human life that these stories exist.
"I don't know how long we're going to go on, we aren't going to run out of stories."
When asked about her inspiration, she revealed: "People ask me every year, 'Where do you get your stories from?' and the simple answer is, I go to the British newspaper archive or I go into the medical archive."
Heidi attributes the show's enduring success to its authentic storytelling, adding: "I think we are rooted in realism, love and changing times and because times keep changing, we will keep going on."
This sentiment is reflected in the show's recent renewal for seasons 14 and 15, securing its on-air presence until at least 2026.
Heidi added: "We are a family behind the scenes, on the screen, and in front of the telly, and I'm thrilled that we're all heading into the 1970s together."
Since its debut in 2012, Call the Midwife has captivated audiences with its portrayal of life in London's East End, drawing inspiration from Jennifer Worth's memoirs. The series has featured an array of talented actors, including Miranda Hart, Miriam Margolyes, Helen George, and Jenny Agutter, as it spans the late 1950s to the early 1970s.
