Lorraine Kelly has opened up about her love for the Orkney Islands in a candid admission following the release of her first book.

The presenter, 65, was speaking to The People’s Friend Special, about where she thinks she’ll base herself in the future as she looks towards the end of her career.

She said she had discussed moving back to Orkney with her daughter Rosie, given Lorraine and her family’s close relationship with the location.

She said: “Rosie and I were talking about it the other day and we think we’ll eventually all end up coming back to Scotland. I miss Dundee a lot. Rosie loved it there and still does.”

Lorraine spoke in great detail during the interview about her beloved daughter Rosie, who has become a mother herself, and even told Lorraine about the pregnancy on Orkney.

Lorraine explained: “My daughter, Rosie, came with me, and it was during that trip she told me she was pregnant. It was the best, so exciting, but I couldn’t tell anyone because it was so early on.”

Despite the fact her first novel, The Island Swimmer, has only just been released, Lorraine has admitted that she could be working on a second already.

Writing in a post on Instagram that accompanied a photo of her swimming on Orkney, she said: “Celebrating in Orkney with my lovely pal Nick when my first novel The Island Swimmer became a best seller this year!

"THANK YOU to everyone who bought the book - I have been overwhelmed by your lovely comments - it’s on offer right now if you need a wee extra Xmas pressie. I’m working hard on the follow up!”

As well as discussing her latest and future novels, Lorraine has spoken to others about her 40 years in television, a timespan that has seen her become one of the nation’s most famous faces.

She told The Yorkshire Post about her future and how she feels about ageing: “I’d like to keep on doing my show for as long as people want to watch. I’d like to keep on doing my show for as long as people want to watch.

"I didn’t expect to still be here (on television) at 65, but I am so happy to be doing the job I love after 40 years. It’s wonderful and it’s down to all the fantastic people I have worked with, my top team and the viewers who have been so loyal and shown me such support.

“I think age is just a number – I am lucky to be surrounded at work by a young enthusiastic team who are fantastic and they keep me young. I eat what I like and I walk my wee dog and try to keep as healthy as possible.”
