ETTC: Guest 'could cry' after viewing dream property

A recent Escape to the Country episode saw emotions run high as one participant was on the verge of tears while searching for the perfect rural residence.

In the latest offering of the treasured BBC programme, presenter Sonali Shah guided Gail and Steve, alongside their daughter Alex and her young son, in finding an idyllic countryside abode. With three generations to satisfy, Sonali faced the challenge of catering to many preferences as they looked to relocate to Northumberland.

While their hearts were set on Northumberland, Sonali's third and enigmatic property took them a little further to Cumbria, which surprisingly ticked every box on Gail and Steve's list, leaving them astounded as they toured the magnificent home. The couple ended their visit feeling disheartened, fearing that such perfection was likely beyond their £650,000 budget.

Probing their emotional state, Sonali asked, "How do you feel now that I've given you exactly what you want?"

Overwhelmed with emotion, Gail confessed: "I feel like crying! I actually did shed a tear up there, to be honest," reports Chronicle Live.

Steve echoed the sentiment, "It is a bit emotional, to be honest, because it is too good to be 'true,'" before expressing his concern, "How could we afford something this beautiful? That's what I'm thinking!"

Nonetheless, Sonali was poised with an unexpected revelation, stunning the family by disclosing the delightful news that the dreamy estate, complete with 12 acres, was listed at a mere £550,000, a full £100,000 below their original budget.

Utterly astounded, the couple were almost lost for words, expressing their joy at the discovery.

Reflecting on the property's dimensions, Steve remarked: "First impressions of the house was that I was amazed by the house and I was surprised that it was double!"

By the programme's conclusion, Steve, Gail, and their daughter Alex announced they would be revisiting the property, as the enigmatic house appeared to tick all their boxes.

Escape to the Country airs weekdays at 3pm on BBC One.
