James Corden chats to BBC Breakfast at Gavin and Stacey filming
Anticipation is reaching a fever pitch among Gavin and Stacey fans as the countdown to the beloved sitcom's grand finale on Christmas Day continues. The burning question everyone is talking about is whether the mystery of the notorious family fishing trip will finally be revealed or remain one of those enduring enigmas.
The cast members are keeping a strict silence on the matter, so it's impossible to say at this moment whether fans will get the closure they crave.
However, after recent conversations with the full cast, we can confirm that BBC audiences are in for a treat, with promises of a "satisfied" feeling with many "twists and turns" come to light in the concluding episode.
Steffan Rhodri, who portrays Dave Coaches, was astounded by the revelations in the 2024 script. He shared his reaction: "I had no idea what to expect when I received the script, so the twists and turns were surprising and very satisfying."
He went on to say about his conversation with James Corden: "I messaged James (Corden) immediately after reading it and said something like, 'I thought it was like one of Shakespeare's great comedies with the surprising plot twists combined with the wonderful symmetry of the romance. A slightly grandiose assessment, but fair I think'," reports Wales Online.

James Corden, co-creator and star of the show, shared his own thoughts on reuniting with the cast, stating: "It felt incredible. I mean for a long time when Ruth (Jones) and I were writing the show we actually didn't know if it would ever come to fruition because really what we've always done is just write it for ourselves and then figure out if we think it might be good enough for an audience.
"It felt so good to be back in a room with Ruth and then thinking we may have happened on a story which might be satisfying."
The show's return is highly anticipated, particularly after the dramatic cliffhanger five years ago, which left viewers wondering if Nessa Jenkins (Ruth Jones) and Smithy (James Corden) had married. The Christmas episode is expected to provide some answers, but the couple's fate remains a mystery for now.
As for the final episode, fans can expect to see Bryn preparing for a trip to Essex, Stacey and Gavin trying to reignite the spark in their 17-year marriage, and Gwen behaving strangely in Barry. In the meantime, Nessa embarked on a fresh business venture, and Neil, the baby, began an apprenticeship under his father, Smithy.
Over in Billericay, Gavin's parents, Pam and Mick, are flustered about their hosting duties, with newly retired Mick practicing his golf swings in the living room.
Their pals, Dawn and Pete, encounter further relationship troubles.
Gavin & Stacey's final ever episode will air on Christmas Day, from 9pm on BBC One.
