Coronation Street actor quietly axed and replaced in ITV recasting drama

Coronation Street fans might notice something a bit suspect about a member of the Platt family after an actor was quietly axed and recast.

With all the drama around Helen Worth’s ITV Corrie exit as she bows out as Gail Platt, it’s no wonder the family is in turmoil.

David's scurrying to get a mortgage on the family home and Shona's busy trying to plan Gail’s hen do – so a small recast wouldn’t be completely obvious to fans at first.

But it’s Sarah’s son Harry who has been recast – with Carter-J Murphy stepping into the shoes of the young boy. Set to appear on the soap for the first time this week, he’ll be replacing twins Freddie and Isaac Rhodes in the role.

Harry was born in 2016, after Sarah’s fling with baddie Callum Logan, and was originally played by Woody Illsley as a baby, before being replaced by twins Pixie and Presley Sellars for a year – until Freddie and Isaac joined.

No official reason has been given for the recast, but it’s not unusual for young characters to be replaced as they continue to grow up on screen.

According to DressCircle, Carter-J has already made waves in the world of acting, starring as Oliver in a stage production at Leeds Playhouse.

Harry isn’t the only Platt to be recast in recent years, as Max Turner – David’s step-son – was changed to current star Paddy Bever in 2021, after being played by Harry McDermott since 2010.

Though Lily Platt has been played by actress Brooke Malonie since 2016, she’s also been played by two sets of twins – first Ava and Lilly Bushell, followed by Betsie and Emmie Taylor.

Even Bethany Platt has been played by several actresses before Lucy Fallon stepped into the role in 2015. For seven years she was portrayed by Amy and Emily Walton, but as a baby was played by Mia Cookson.
