Larry Lamb has shared how emotional the final day of filming Gavin & Stacey was, revealing that it had left him heartbroken.
The 90-minute special will air on Christmas Day, picking up five years after Nessa’s proposal to Smithy.
Opening up about the final moments on set, the 77-year-old EastEnders actor revealed the cast were overcome with emotions as they neared the end of filming.
“I didn’t feel emotional until we started heading towards the end of the shoot. Then you realise, well, this is very likely the last time that we all get together,” he told Radio Times.
“And having joined in with everything from the very beginning – seeing people in their 20s who are now pushing 50, it’s a fascinating study. I’m now an elderly gentleman, while I was respectably in my 60s when it started.”

Although Larry admitted it could be their last time all together, he didn’t rule out the possibility of more Gavin & Stacey in the future. When asked about the chance of another return, he said: “Never say never.”
The actor, who plays the lovable Mick Shipman, hinted that fans might not have seen the last of the series.
“Having waited all those years, answering people’s questions about if there’s ever going to be another one… I was surprised but not shocked. And I don’t think the BBC will ever kill the goose that laid the golden egg.”
A recent teaser for the Christmas special reads: “It’s five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her. And a lot has happened since then.
“In Barry, Bryn’s packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex; Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their seventeen-year marriage and Gwen is behaving most strangely. Nessa’s started a new business venture and Neil the Baby’s about to begin an apprenticeship with his dad.
“Over in Billericay Pam is stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly retired Mick practicing his golf swings in the living room and there have been more ups and downs in Pete and Dawn’s relationship.
“Join us on the journey to Barry and Billericay as we catch up with the Shipmans and the Wests for the very last time and maybe find out what exactly did happen on that fishing trip.”
