This Morning: Prue Leith shares avocado preparation hack
Prue Leith's cooking demonstration on This Morning turned into a bit of a fiasco when one of her culinary shortcuts backfired spectacularly.
The beloved Great British Bake Off judge appeared alongside hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary on the ITV morning programme on 29 November, to chat about her latest book brimming with simple kitchen hacks.
Alison, keen to learn, prompted: "So, can you show us some hacks? What hacks have you got?" Prue, 84, opted to enlighten Alison and Dermot on the art of preparing an avocado without injury.
She warned the pair: "This is the one that us really important to know because it's hard to get a stone out of an avocado without anything happening."
Highlighting the common mishap that leads to 'avocado hand' in A&E, Prue demonstrated her technique: "So many people dig at it and they end up with what doctors call 'avocado hand' in AandE. So anyhow, you cut the avocado in half and then you just take a big knife like that and you bang it. Make it come out, squeeze it a bit," she explained while showing them the trick.
The segment took a turn when Prue attempted to showcase how to neatly slice an avocado using a grill rack, only for the fruit to be squished onto the plate instead, reports the Mirror.
Conceding to the blunder, Prue confessed: "It's a bit of a mess," prompting laughter from Alison who quipped: "It's flat like a pancake! Like a green pancake! " Prue joined in the amusement, conceding: "It's not exactly beautiful is it."
Prue Leith's visit follows a stirring revelation from Dermot O'Leary, who recently confessed to having "unfinished business" with the GBBO star. The ITV presenter disclosed that he was taken aback when Prue delivered a stinging rebuke at him, despite his receipt of one of Bake Off's coveted 'Hollywood Handshakes' from Paul Hollywood.
Reflecting on the tension, he recounted how his initial pride in his baking achievement was dashed by Prue's cutting feedback. She bluntly informed Dermot that his efforts wouldn't have earned her approval, prompting him to recognise their unresolved issues.
Rehashing his Bake Off experience to co-host Cat Deeley on 28 November, he said: "When I did Bake Off last year, I got a Hollywood handshake for my ice buns. It was an absolute dream. Very happy, right? Prue Leith came up straight away and went, 'I wouldn't have given you a handshake for that.' In other words, we've got unfinished business tomorrow!"
