Bad Sisters season two official trailer
After more than two years of eager anticipation, fans can rejoice as one of the standout new series of the decade is making a triumphant return.
Showcasing a host of Irish talent, both in the limelight and behind the scenes, this 10-episode enigma captivated audiences in 2022, culminating its revelations in October.
Fast forward a year and a month, and viewers are itching to see Eva Garvey (played by Sharon Horgan) and her sisterly band dive into another round of unintended mischief.
We are, of course, referring to Bad Sisters, which has at long last graced screens once again with a riveting two-part season opener on Apple TV+ today (Wednesday, November 13).
Before aficionados have an opportunity to delve into tonight's bountiful feast of television excitement, a slew of top-tier critiques are already flooding in, reports the Mirror.
As The Radio Times captured in their opinion piece: "Hilarious and heartbreaking with every breath, it'll rip your heart right out."
Their five-star review hailed the sophomore season as "better than ever" and affirmed, "The second season exemplifies what Bad Sisters does best: splices the ridiculous joy of life with its bleakest moments.
"It's more sombre in tone than the first season, but as fiery, twisted and shocking, which will keep viewers second-guessing throughout.
"One thing is for sure, Bad Sisters has the ability to rip your heart right out and catch you involuntarily laughing out loud even when you don't want to."
Collider has given the thumbs up to the latest series, noting, "There's nothing better than a TV show that knows what it's doing."
They added a tantalising hint about the upcoming season: "Season two also makes it clear that the Apple TV+ series is more than ready to step out of its comfort zone and shake up the lives of its core characters if it means that it will make the story better," and revealed, "By the end of episode two, we're presented with a new scenario that quite simply changes the show forever, and forces all characters to adapt to a new and wildly unpredictable reality."
The Daily Beast conceded that while some may argue the series could have done without a second season, they confess that the return of Bad Sisters is "still a blast" and have dubbed it "TV's best show about killing bad men".
The i newspaper, in their four-star review, initially expressed concerns over the second season but quickly retracted, admitting they "shouldn't have worried".
Their review praised the show, saying, "Bad Sisters is a believable portrayal of siblings and the performances have only got better, especially Horgan," and highlighted the production quality: "The female gaze behind the camera is unmistakable: the way these women are shot is beautiful and there is exquisite attention to detail."
Meanwhile, the London Evening Standard couldn't hide their enthusiasm for the show's comeback, describing it as "the return of the brash, bold, murderous Garvey sisters is a total treat."
They concluded with high praise for the series: "Bad Sisters is a 10-course tasting menu that's designed to be savoured. Luckily, you won't have a choice, with the first two episodes released on November 13 and the rest coming weekly until Christmas."
"Murder and mystery aside, the show feels perfect for the festive season, and returning to the Garvey family feels like coming home."
While some viewers may feel let down that the new instalment won't drop in one go, Bad Sisters season two is shaping up to be an ideal pick for those lengthy winter nights, offering a gripping mystery to get lost in.
Alternatively, if you're the patient type, you could hold off until the full season is available and indulge in a marathon viewing session over the Christmas or New Year's holiday.
Bad Sisters season 2 continues Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
