This Morning's Cat Deeley and Dermot O'Leary try sandwiches

This Morning viewers were united in their displeasure as they took to social media to express their distaste for the audible munching of festive sandwiches by the show's presenters.

On Tuesday's episode (November 12), Cat Deeley stepped in alongside Dermot O'Leary while Ben Shephard was away filming his new show The Summit in New Zealand.

They invited chef Clodagh Mckenna to showcase some top Christmas sandwich choices, but the sound of the stars gobbling down the delicious offerings made the audience at home quite uncomfortable.

Fans vented on X, previously known as Twitter, about the off-putting smacking sounds. One disgruntled viewer wrote: "The lip slapping while eating the Christmas sandwiches is DISGUSTING. #ThisMorning."

Someone else complained: "I wish they'd turn their mics off while they're eating, it's making me feel sick. #ThisMorning." Another added their voice to the chorus of discontent: "Omg. Who's slapping their lips gross #ThisMorning.", reports the Mirror.

A different user commented: "Eat with your mouth closed and stop talking with your mouth full. It's disgusting. #thismorning."

There was further consensus with a tweet stating: "They were making me gag the way they were eating those sandwiches. They need to learn some manners.'".

Viewers were absolutely smitten with the on-screen chemistry between Dermot O'Leary and Cat Deeley as they joined forces on This Morning, prompting fans to express their thrill at the new pairing. Admirers of the duo didn't hold back online, with one enthusiast proclaiming: "Really like Cat and Dermot together they two are the ultimate dream team! I've been thinking that for a long time that Cat would be more suited to Dermot... love their humour #ThisMorning."

Another chimed in praising the pairing: "Cat works soo much better with Dermot already #ThisMorning."

Amidst the positive reactions, speculation arose from a third fan who suggested: "I think Ben shepherd will leave #thismorning and be replaced with Dermot, so it'll be Cat and Dermot Monday to Thursday and then maybe Alison and Josie on a Friday."

On the November 12 show, Ben Shephard cleared up speculations about his absence on This Morning. Revealing his current location as New Zealand, he shared exciting news about fronting a brand-new ITV programme titled The Summit.

In conversation with hosts Alison Hammond and Cat Deeley, Ben, through a video call clarified: "I'm not in the jungle! I've gone a bit further south, I'm in New Zealand. We are hosting this brand new show for ITV, which is called The Summit."

Ben went on to detail his role in the forthcoming series: "I'm going to be guiding them up there, I'm going to be checking in with them at nights and talking them through what stages of the challenges they're in.

Hopefully I'll be there when some of them reach the summit. They're carrying the winnings with them all the way up so what makes it up there is shared with those who actually get there too."

The Summit, hosted by Ben, will feature 14 strangers embarking on a mountain climbing adventure in the Alps of New Zealand's southern island, with the opportunity to win a portion of a potential £200,000 cash prize.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
