Strictly Come Dancing enthusiasts were left seething and took to social media to vent their frustration over the scores awarded to Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell after their latest stirring performance.

The comedian has been lauded for his dance which included a "poignant" blackout sequence, symbolising his personal experience with blindness, during Saturday night's live show (November 9).

At 47, Chris, alongside his 36 year old dance partner Dianne Buswell, concluded week eight's live show with their couple's choice routine set to John Lennon's Instant Karma! (We All Shine On).

As the dance neared its end, Chris was seen covering Dianne's eyes as darkness enveloped the stage, only for the lights to return moments later revealing Chris spinning with Buswell atop his shoulders amidst a burst of pyrotechnics.

The act garnered thunderous applause from the audience and earned a commendable score of 33 out of 40 from the judging panel - Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, and Anton Du Beke, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Craig Revel Horwood described the "poignant blackout moment" as "absolutely spectacular" while an emotional head judge Shirley Ballas, composing herself, praised Chris: "You come out every week with your heart on your sleeve, and you give us 100%."

Despite the praise, some Strictly viewers were incensed, demanding higher recognition for Chris and Dianne's emotive performance.

Fans erupted on Twitter over the unexpected score of Chris and Dianne from Strictly Come Dancing.

@katbrown exclaimed: "Chris and Dianne broke the cardinal rule of Couple's Choice tropes which is that you must be barefoot for EMOTION and chance to grab points. Instead, here they are having an absolute ball and making an entire audience happy, just as they have done all series. #Strictly."

@meganchloa was bewildered by the scoring, saying: "SEVEN? ? ? ? ? ? ? I'm sorry but wtaf? ! He is BLIND! Even if he could see, that dance deserved a LOT more than 7! I am speechless #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing."

@Carlee3091 voiced her frustration with the judges' inconsistent feedback: "Wtf! ! ! ! How can they give those comments and then those scores! ! A 7 Craig? ? ! What the fuck! ? This programme is INFURIATING! ! " Meanwhile, @themaskedfanartist was perplexed at the low score given by Craig, stating: "How Craig only scored 7 for this is beyond me. I NEED CHRIS TO GET A 10 PLZ JUDGES ITS NOT HARD."

Furthermore, @leoni. widdows couldn't praise the couple enough: "Under marked! Under appreciated! That was a moment for the strictly history books! That was beyond anything I think anyone could imagine and the fact we got to see his emotional side as well even though each week he has to have that extra courage and bravery than the rest of them , just shows the man he is and Diane , by far the best strictly pro to grace that dance floor , she is absolutely incredible. Dream team."

@queenrachbadger expressed her frustration on social media, writing: "Why were there no 10's? They get under marked every week! Anton saying he made a mistake so couldn't have a 10- total rubbish, and as for a 7....! ! ! It was A... mazing! ! My Winners."

Joining the chorus of dismay, @nosyerin also weighed in with: "Horrifically undermarked! they didn't do a 'sob story' and were penalised for it! These two are absolutely AMAZING! Keep it up, I love you both."

Strictly Come Dancing resumes on Saturday on BBC One.
