Gary Barlow chats to This Morning's Ben Shephard about future

Gary Barlow has revealed his plans for the future after taking a brief break from music.

The star is all set to enthral audiences with a brand-new TV show debuting on Monday, November 11, titled 'Gary Barlow's Wine Tour: South Africa'. With a roster of friends joining him, Gary embarks on a captivating journey across the vineyards and eateries of South Africa, searching for the most genuine culinary delights.

While having a chat on This Morning, Gary and host Ben Shephard delved into the topics of celebrating half a century and Gary's aspirational return to the music scene.

Gary said: "Any of my demons in life, I tried not to bring with me into my fifties. I think it's a good time to get rid of stuff. I think it should be your power years. I think it's the opposite of what you think you need to do - try and do more, not try and do less. Rather than think you're going to wind down. Especially given your kids have all gone off to university. I think the real goal now is to look after yourself and look after one another."

Queried about whether a slowdown was in his plans, Gary was adamant. He said: "One thing I'm always trying to protect in all of it is to remember the only reason I do all of this is because I'm a songwriter. As long as at some point, it always comes back to that, that's the well I always need to go and fill up.

"I'm approaching a period now where I'll have a writing year next year and that's what is always nice about what we do - every year is different."

Despite his fame, Gary has previously shared that he doesn't expect his children to take the same path.

He discussed his children's career aspirations: "I don't think any of my children are following in my footsteps at this point. The two oldest ones [Daniel and Emily] have kind of gone into medicine and physiology - studying strength and conditioning - and my youngest one, Daisy, I'm not too sure what she's heading for but again, she's very studious... unlike me and my wife!

"I don't think they will follow in my music footsteps but I wouldn't have discouraged them though if they did want to, it's been a good business for me. Every day I still enjoy what I do and when you realise you're making a living from it, it's a great, great place to be. Many roles in 'showbiz' are just wonderful, there's definitely a much harder world out there than the one I'm in I think."

*This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1 and ITVX.
