Strictly: Jamie Borthwick wants show rule 'scrapped'

A Strictly Come Dancing star has called for a shake-up in the programme, demanding that a part of the dance show be "scrapped".

The renowned BBC dance contest made its results show comeback tonight, Sunday, November 10, with presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announcing one after another which couples will return for another spin on the dance floor next week.

EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick and his professional dance partner Michelle Tsiakkas were among those who breezed into the next stage after their scintillating Argentine Tango performance to Arctic Monkeys' Do I Wanna Know? on Saturday night.

As Wynne Evans and Katya Jones braced themselves for the nail-biting dance-off, Claudia chatted with some of the already safe contestants who had been saved thanks to the public vote.

However, while discussing with the Albert Square veteran, he couldn't resist expressing his opinion regarding the current structure of the series.

Claudia began: “Jamie, I know you are incredibly close to Wynne so for you, is this bittersweet?” to which he replied: “Yeah it is a bit. You know, it’s such a strong competition and it would have been a shock anyone being in that dance-off tonight.

“I wish we could all go to Blackpool, it’s so horrible that someone’s got to go. I think we should just scrap that rule.”

Comedian Chris McCausland then chipped in: “It’s a terrible show isn’t it?" eliciting laughter from the other celebrities.

Jamie agreed: "It is! It ruins the show!” as Claudia blankly stated: “I’ll tell the boss.”

Emotions ran high last evening as the stars delivered heart-rending performances, all setting the stage for next week's legendary instalment at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Pete Wicks, erstwhile star of The Only Way Is Essex (Towie), and his dance partner Jowita Przystal had their moment under the spotlight as they showcased their Couple's Choice contemporary routine set to Nicotine Dolls' track The Best.

During the VT before their dance, Pete was visibly emotional as he dedicated his performance to his late grandmother. The pair's moving routine earned them an impressive 36 points.

However, it was Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell who delivered one of the night's most unforgettable moments with their Couple's Choice dance to John Lennon's "Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)".

In a powerful blackout sequence, viewers experienced a glimpse into Chris's world, dancing in darkness as the music played on, earning them 33 points and touching the judges deeply.

Shirley Ballas struggled to contain her emotions, praising Chris for wearing his "heart on your sleeve", while Craig Revel Horwood called the moment "poignant".

Strictly Come Dancing continues every Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
