The Chase: Player runs out of time

The Chase star Mark Labbett made a plea to one contestant before she made a huge mistake. Monday's instalment of the hit ITV quiz show saw The Beast take on four new contestants; Craig, Amanda, Zizzy and Caspian.

Craig got the team off to the perfect start, bringing a whopping £30,000 back to the team. With such a large sum of money in the bank, Amanda decided to take the low offer of £1,000 instead of the £3,000 she earned in the cash builder.

The 59-year-old was just two away from home when the pressure started mounting, with The Beast just one spot behind her. The next question was: "What is the simultaneous discharge of artillery or other guns called?"

The options given were "Salver", "Salvo", and "Salvage", leaving Amanda confused on which to pick. As she scrambled to make a decision, host Bradley Walsh urged Amanda to choose an answer while Mark demanded: "Press!"

Unfortunately for Amanda, she ran out of time. Bradley noted how Amanda's finger was hovering over A, before she changed it to B at the last minute. In a devastating blow, B was the correct answer, which Mark also knew.

"We like to win, but not that way," the 59-year-old said. "That's why I was screaming 'press' because anything is better than nothing." Fans were in uproar on social media, with one declaring: "Taking the low offer is unforgivable.

A second demanded: "Get her out chaser." A third added: "Outta time... No excuse." Another weighed in: "One job, press the button."

"How much time do people need?" asked a fourth viewer. However, the fan fury was only just beginning. Third to take on Mark was Zizzy, who answered five questions correctly in the cash builder.

Unable to undo Craig's hard work, the 40-year-old refused to take the low offer of -£5,000 and stuck with her original earnings. However, she was unfortunately caught by Mark, meaning it was up to Caspian to make sure Craig wasn't alone in the final chase.

The 25-year-old went to the table with £3,000 and couldn't be tempted by Mark's high offer of £60,000. However, the low offer of -£10,000 was enough to sway Caspian.

Fans couldn't contain their fury as they flocked to social media to complain. "You've got to be some level of d**ahead to take -£10,000. WTF is wrong with you mate," wrote one person.

"You should be ashamed of yourself," claimed a second. A third said: "I’d rather do the final chase on my own than have £10k of the money I contributed taken away!"

Another weighed in: "-£10k? I don’t know how these people have the cheek to go home after that. Pathetic." Someone else branded the decision "a new low" while others shared hope that Mark caught them in the final chase.

Craig and Caspian answered just 11 questions correctly between them in the final chase, leaving Mark able to comfortably catch them with 59 seconds remaining.
