The film followed the lives of the Khan family, a mixed ethnicity family residing in Salford in the 70s, as they grapple with cultural clashes and familial conflicts.

In 2002, she featured in Gurinder Chadha's Bend It Like Beckham, sharing the screen with Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Anupam Kher.

Her most recent major movie role was in the 2015 American disaster film San Andreas, where she starred alongside Hollywood titan Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Further showcasing her acting talent, she clinched awards at prestigious events like the Berlin International Film Festival and Cannes International Film Festival. In 2016, she graced the ITV crime drama series Shetland, appearing in the third series as Detective Sergeant Asha Israni.
