GMB's Laura Tobin issues warning for anyone heading to seaside

Britain is experiencing the "hottest day of the year" today (July 19) but it was Good Morning Britain that felt the heat for its "embarassing" coverage of the excess heat. Laura Tobin was back on the ITV show to update viewers of what they can expect from the day's weather, but fans complained as she warned that it would be a warm day.

Today's UK weather will see rain across the north and west but elsewhere, it is dry and sunny with temperatures up to 31 degrees. The weather presenter warned fans to wear sun screen as it is "very hot today".

However, Laura added that it "will not last". She said that as we head through the weekend and into next week, temperatures will begin to drop again.

Despite the good news about the nation finally experiencing some sunshine, in what has been a wet and dull summer, fans at home were not happy. Taking to social media, they complained about the weather coverage.

One user posted to X (formerly Twitter): "#gmb will be pushing global warming next.... Good luck with that after this s*** summer."

Another added: "Here we go. First day of proper summer and they couldn’t wait to get the warnings out, going to p*** down tomorrow." A third moaned: "Bore off, this is not Africa it’s embarrassing."

"Stupid weather presentation. Colours that look like we are on fire and an average line with no figures. This is not information, this is propaganda and scare tactics. #gmb #weather," wrote another disgruntled viewer.

While someone else penned: "One day of sun and there a health alerts. Oh p*** off. #gmb."

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill warned that Thursday and Friday night will be a “tropical night”, and a heat health alert has also been issued.

He said: “Temperatures are set to rise in London. Some places will see 30C-31C which are most likely. Temperatures will stay in the high teens/ low 20s in the night between Thursday-Friday which will make it a tropical night.

“There is a heat health alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency because it's going to be hot by day and uncomfortably warm by night, particularly towards the Southeast of the UK.”
