Halo: Official TV series trailer from Paramount+
Halo fans all agree Paramount+ made the right decision by bringing the long-awaited video game adaptation to an end after just two seasons.
The science fiction series based on the popular Xbox franchise was in development for years before Kyle Killen and Steven Kane finally brought it to streaming with Pablo Schreiber starring as the iconic Master Chief.
However, many fans of the video games were disappointed with the direction the TV adaptation took.
Halo purists were frustrated with some huge departures from the story of the games, while new characters invented solely for the series received a polarised reaction.
Paramount+ has now confirmed the series won’t continue with a third season on the platform, though TVLine reports that Amblin Television, Xbox and 343 Industries are hoping to shop the series elsewhere.
Despite a slightly more positive reaction to the second season, the majority of Halo fans who tuned into the series are happy with the decision.
One particularly brutal comment from a fan on Reddit said: “Good. Every episode felt like it was written by a schizophrenic experiencing a near life ending fever dream.”
And another said sarcastically: “What the Halo show not about Halo got cancelled? Shocking.”
“Good. The show was hilariously bad,” a third said.
Over on X (formerly Twitter), one viewer posted: “I’m so glad the show got canceled because halo deserves so much better than this piece of s**t.
“Can we please go back to animated stuff for halo or let Amazon do a TV show for Halo?”
While another commented: “The Halo TV series getting cancelled is probably deserved, considering it was so different to the source material.
“Supposedly the producers are looking for another streaming service to pick it up - but I can't imagine the Halo community will encourage that sort of thing.”
The Halo series has also been compared unfavourably to the likes of Fallout on Amazon Prime Video and HBO’s The Last of Us, which received glowing reviews from fans and newcomers alike as examples of video game adaptations done right.
