BBC Breakfast: Naga Munchetty shares breaking news

Naga Munchetty took a moment out of Friday's BBC Breakfast to bring some important news to viewers. She began: "Good morning. It's Friday the 19th of July and we have some breaking news to bring you.

"Much has been happening in the last hour or so, we've understood that flights have been grounded in the United States, and there are other countries reporting concerns about operating systems too."

Charlie Stayt chipped in: "London Stock Exchange being affected we are told. Microsoft is reporting a major worldwide outage and just look at some of the reports coming in.

"This is affecting a lot of airlines. I'm just seeing, Ben that Spanish airports are reporting problems as well...we're just trying to get a sense of the scale of the problem right now."

Ben Boulos replied: "And the scale of this problem is that it is huge. Let me run through what we know so far."

The presenter continued: "Airlines, supermarkets, TV news channels, and banks around the world are affected by this massive IT outage thought to be linked to Microsoft and business computer systems.

Here in the UK the biggest impact so far are at the London Stock Exchange where some systems are down.

"Sky News is reporting problems with transmission, Ryanair has warned customers to expect long delays at airports, and the train companies - Great Northern Rail is reporting problems.

"A reporter at The Telegraph says all their PCs in the newspaper office are down...that's what we know so far in the UK, but it's also causing huge problems in other parts of the world."

Ben went on to explain that in the US, several airlines have grounded flights.

He added: "They include American Airlines and Delta, but they've not confirmed whether it's directly due to the outage.

"In Alaska, emergency services are affected. The state troopers there say many 911 Call Centers are not working correctly across the state.

"In Australia, the broadcaster ABC has been affected as well as supermarkets and banks."
